SPECTACULAR REACTIONS DEMONSTRATIONS
This series of dynamic demonstrations helps students become familiar with chemical principles as redox, synthesis, decomposition, ionic reactions in aqueous solutions, and exothermic reactions. Teacher demos include Smoke Without Fire, The Hydrogen Balloon, an Iodine Clock Reaction, and Disappearing Blue. The activities allow students to witness that both a synthesis reaction and a decomposition reaction can make solid substances “boil”. The highly visual demonstrations produce a dramatic effect that students are not likely to forget. Developed by Stewart Tick. Includes materials for five student groups and instructions. Required but not included: 500 mL of 6.0 M hydrochloric acid. Grades 11–12.
